School Advisory Council

School Advisory Councils (SAC) are advisory bodies which form an important expression of the educational partnership that exists between parents, schools, parishes and the wider community to support all students. This is reflected in the ex-officio membership of both the principal and the parish priest on the Council. What they do is governed by the Terms of Reference.

The SAC provides a forum for discussion and discernment, where the parent voice and perspective are available to influence the decisions made by the principal and parish priest for the good of school and parish where the wellbeing and outcomes for students is paramount.

Family Engagement Opportunities

Sacred Heart values the partnership between our school, our parents/carers and students. Parental involvement in school life strengthens the relationships between home and school and can enhance school programs by assisting in the provision of a broad range of learning experiences for all students.

When parents are involved at school, the performance of all the children at school, not just their own, tends to improve. The more comprehensive and well planned the partnership between the school and home, the higher the student achievement (Henderson and Berla).

Opportunities for Family Engagement include:

  • Learning Walks

  • Parent Helper Programs – designed for teachers and parents to work together to assist children in the development of reading, writing, numeracy skills, Discovery/Inquiry

  • Excursions & Camps

  • Special Events – Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day, Harmony Day, Sports Days and lots more

  • Showcases of Learning

  • School Advisory Council

  • Fund raising

  • Engagement in your own child’s learning at every opportunity

Acknowledgement of Country

An Acknowledgement of Country is spoken at the beginning of each day as part of our students ‘Morning Gatherings’ and routines as a class. It is also spoken at the beginning of the week when the staff gather, at whole school assemblies and other times when we gather together.

We take a moment to appreciate the 80,000 year history of this country. We take a moment to honour the fact that Aboriginal People cared for and protected this land we now call home since the dreaming. Their connections to the earth, animals, seas and waterways is a part of their being. To the Yalukit-Willam people of the Boon-wurrung Country who are the traditional owners of the land known as Newport, thank you for having us here today. We also extend our respects to all elders across all Aboriginal nations and language groups.
